摘要 | This article quantifies in dollars, jobs, and economic value lost how excess growth in health care costs is adversely affecting economic performance of U.S. industries. Researchers analyzed data from 38 U.S. industries from 1987 to 2005 and determined that faster growth in health care costs had greater adverse effects on economic outcomes for industries with larger percentages of workers who receive employer-sponsored health insurance. For example, a 10 percent increase in excess growth in health care costs would have meant 120,803 fewer jobs, $28,022 million in lost gross output, and $14,082 million in lost value added in 2005. |
