To better understand and assess the effectiveness of services for pregnant and parenting youth, Mathematica is rigorously testing the effectiveness of three programs designed to delay subsequent pregnancies, improve contraception use, and encourage and promote expectant and parenting females to remain in school and, ultimately, graduate.

The study integrates qualitative and quantitative data for each of three evaluation sites in California, Texas, and Washington, DC. Each of these evaluations will be complemented by an in-depth implementation study. Two of the evaluations (California and Texas) rely on survey data collection; the Washington, DC, study uses administrative data. We are also conducting a descriptive study of the programs and practices of all 20 Office of Adolescent Health Pregnancy Assistance Fund grantees.
