This new briefing from Trade Out of Poverty (ToP) and the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) looks at the importance of trade in development, and calls for the European Union (EU) to help the world's poorest nations to trade out of poverty.

The EU has taken welcome steps to remove barriers to poor countries' exports but there is still much improvement needed in its trade policy as the EU's trade with the poorest countries remains pitifully low. These recommendations from ToP and the ODI urge the EU to recognise that expanding trade is a 'win-win' tool that benefits rich and poor countries alike.
